Detailed Installation Guide | Macintosh



This section will assist you with the installation of the SlipStream Web Accelerator for the Macintosh. It will also familiarize you with the features of the accelerator.

System Requirements
SlipStream Web Accelerator works with Internet Explorer 4.0 (or later) and Netscape Communicator 4.0 (or later).

  • Windows Users:
    Windows Win 2000, Win XP
    Processor: PIII 500MHz or higher with at least 64 MB of RAM
  • Macintosh Users:
    Mac OS X
    At least 64 MB of RAM

Detailed Installation Instructions

The minimum system requirements are a PowerPC G3 processor at 333MHz with 128MB RAM and 6MB of hard drive space. It works with OS X 10.2 or later and Safari 1.0 or later.

1. Download.

  • Click here to download the SlipStream Web Accelerator installer.
  • Download the disk image, it should automatically decompress and mount itself.
  • Once the download has completed, proceed to Step 2.

2. Install.

  • After downloading the SlipStream Web Accelerator installer, you should see an icon as shown below in the installer volume. Double-clicking on the icon will launch the installer.

 

  • The installer will guide you through the complete setup process.

 

3. Connect.

  • As this is your first time launching the product, you will be prompted for a username and password. You do NOT need to enter a username or password, please leave these fields blank.
  • Click OK. SlipStream Web Accelerator will connect.
  • After launching the SlipStream Web Accelerator, you will see the following icon in the dock.

 

4. Browse the Web.

  1. Browse the web as you normally would.

  2. When finished, simply close your web browser, as you normally would, and SlipStream Web Accelerator will remain idle.

  3. If you want to stop the application after browsing select Stop SlipStream Web Accelerator from the application menu, or if you desire to exit the application all together click Quit from the application menu.

Launching SlipStream Web Accelerator

If the SlipStream Web Accelerator is not running and you need to launch it manually, locate the SlipStream Web Accelerator icon in the Applications folder and double-click it.

Setting Username and Password Information

You will NOT need a username or password. You just need to be sure you are using a compatible access number. If you need help selecting a number, please call us toll-free at 888-638-4373.

Changing the Image Quality Setting

The image quality setting changes the quality of images that appear in your SlipStream Web Accelerator. The higher the quality you select, the longer it will take to load. For slower Internet connections, it is recommended that you lower your image quality. This slider can be adjusted anytime while browsing.

  • Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
  • Select the "Image Quality" tab.
  • Use the slider bar to adjust the image quality setting.
  • Press "Apply" to save the settings.

Starting and Stopping

To Stop:

If you are connected and you want to manually disconnect, click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item "Stop SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menu-bar.

 


To Start:

If SlipStream Web Accelerator is stopped and you want to manually start, click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon. Select the menu item "Start SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menu-bar.

Changing Your Connection Settings

Normally, the connection settings that are set during installation do not need to be changed. If however, your ISP provides new connection settings, you may change the preset ones using the " Settings" dialog.

  • Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
  • Click on the "Connection" tab.
  • Press "Advanced...".
  • Change the "Remote Server Hostname" and "Server Port" to the ones your ISP provided you. In most cases, it is unnecessary to change the "Local Port".
  • Press "OK" to close the "Connection" dialog box.
  • Press "Apply" to save your new connection settings. These settings will be used next time you connect with the SlipStream Web Accelerator.

Accessing Product Version Information

You may view the product version in the About dialog.

  • Click on the SlipStream Web Accelerator dock icon.
  • Select "About SlipStream Web Accelerator" from the application menubar.

Uninstalling SlipStream Web Accelerator

  • Quit the SlipStream Web Accelerator.
  • Launch the finder and browse to the /Applications folder.
  • Drag the accelerator icon to the trash can.
