Mac OS X Internet Connection Setup


Requirements

You will need the following information.

  • Your login ID (user name) ex: (joeuser@nethere.com)
  • Your password
  • OS X Root password (not always necessary)

Before we get started, be sure that you have the "root" password. As you will not be able to change settings without it.

From the apple menu choose location and select Network Prefrences.




This is where the "root" password will be necessary.
Locate the lock at the bottom left of the Network window and click it.
If it is not locked, nothing needs to be done here.



Enter your password and click ok.




From the location menu, choose new location.




Go ahead and give your location the name "NetHere".
Click Ok.




With the TCP/IP tab selected, from the "Configure" menu choose "Using PPP".
Enter in the Domain Name Servers: 66.63.128.34 and 66.63.128.50 respectively.
Enter nethere.net for the Search Domain.




Click the "PPP" tab and enter your NetHere dial-up number. A list can be found here.
Enter your account name (username) and your password.
Click "PPP Options".




The "Session Options" are mostly optional but the configuration below is recommended.
In "Advanced Options", just select Use TCP header compression.
Click Ok.




Everything under the Proxies tab should be blank.

In the Modem section the only crucial options are wait for dial tone before dialing and tone dialing however, the other options are helpful. Click apply and you are all set!
