Setting up Dreamweaver for FTP
Requirements
You will need the following information.
- The server's Internet address: ex:
( unixweb-1.nethere.net )
- Your login ID (user name) ex: (u00123)
- Your password
1. Choose Site >> Open Site >> Define Sites. In
the Define Sites dialog box, choose a site you have
already defined or click New to set up a new site. The Site
Definition dialog box opens.
2. If you chose New, you need to name your site, specify the
Local Root Folder that stores your web site
files on your hard drive, and enter the HTTP address.

3. To configure the Dreamweaver's FTP capabilities to work with
a remote server, add this additional information:
- From the Category list on the left,
choose Web Server Info.
- From the Server Access pull-down
menu on the right, choose FTP.
- Next to FTP Host, type the name
of your server (for example, unixweb-1.nethere.net).
- Next to Host Directory, type the
path to your Web site. (The path represents the location
of the directory where you store your site on the host server
and usually looks something like this: home.nethere.net/users/mywebsite/.)
Note: This option is not usually necessary.
- Next to Login, type your user name.
- Next to Password, type your password.
(Your password appears in the box as asterisks to help protect
your privacy from anyone who might be looking over your
shoulder or who might gain access to your computer while
you are away.)
- Note: If you do not know the path,
leave the Host Directory text box blank. The default login
directory may be the correct location for HTML pages — if
so, it should be left blank, as is frequently the case.
After connecting, you can navigate through the directories
on the server to determine the directory to which pages
should be transferred. Then you can go back to the definition
and fill in the host directory if you want to access that
directory directly in the future.
If you are configuring Dream Weaver to work behind a Fire Wall,
go on to step 2.
